The Teachers

The Lineage

Yamada Mumon Roshi

was one of a greatest Japanese Rinzai Zen Masters in 20th century, a calligrapher and former abbot of Shofuku-ji monastery in Kobe, Japan. In his youth he wanted to become a lawyer, but later he realized that he would rather live in a world that does not need lawyers in the first place. So he decided to become a monk and bring a harmony to the world with his pure state of mind and heart. He influenced many zen students who later became a great zen teachers

His most proeminent student and Darma heir is Shodo Harada Roshi, an influential master in Japan, United States and Europe.

One of his poems

“ All things are embraced

within the universal mind

Told by the cool wind

This morning. “

Shodo Harada Roshi

Is a Japanese Rinzai Zen master, author, calligrapher, and head abbot of Sogen-ji - a three-hundred years old temple in Okayama, Japan. He has become known as a “teacher of teachers”. His depth of wisdom and skillful ways to teach has attracted more and more students. Beginners, intermediate and advanced meditators and meditation teachers come to sit Sesshin ( meditation retreats ) with him in Japan or during his trips to the United States and Europe. Despite being in his eighties, he still tirelessly teach

ShoE Roshi

Is Harada Roshi’s main student, translator and successor. She has spent 20 years in Rinzai Zen monastery in Japan and is one of rare female teachers who went through complete Zen training. Her realization and wholehearted dedication resulted in opening a Japanese Rinzai Zen monastery in Germany. There she runs zen sesshin “retreats” several time per year, together with Shodo Harada Roshi.

Teachers in Uppsala Dojo

Marko has been practicing meditation and Zen Buddhism since 2009. Yearly he travels to Japan where lives and trains in Rinzai Zen Monastery in Okayama. The meditation training is led under instruction and supervision by one of the greatest living Rinzai Zen masters of our time Shodo Harada Roshi. Several times per year he also attends sesshins (meditation retreats) held in Germany and led by Shodo Harada Roshi and ShoE Roshi. While spending time in Himalayas, he also learned about self inquiry and different meditation practices from Tibetan Buddhist teachers. Before going to Japan he spent time in solitary retreats in south of France.

Marko has been working in different medical fields such as Emergency Medicine and Surgery as well as taking part in few Humanitarian Health expeditions in Himalayas.

Today he is a Zen teacher at One Drop Dojo and works fulltime as Family Medicine Doctor. Meeting patients every day he has noticed alarming degree of stress and mental pollution in today’s society as well as lack of skills to cope with them. Zen Buddhism and it’s timless wisdom have never been of so great importance than now

Madenn moved from France to Japan when she was little. Having interest in Japanese culture and arts she has been practicing Zen, Tea Ceremony, and Kyudo. She facilitates Japanese Calligraphy workshops at One Drop Dojo Center. Offers weekly classes and shares her experience of the way of breathing brush. Several times per year she attends zen retreats (sesshins) with Zen master Shodo Harada Roshi in Germany. Very meticulous and always eager to help others to cultivate their mind and heart but at the same time staying a humble student of life, she teaches the way of gentleness, kindness and wisdom

My heartfelt wish is to support others in their journey of
developing open, stable, peaceful and resilient mind which
gradually leads to more content and harmonious way of life
